Trustee, Trustbar, and Tbackup

Q:
What is the difference between trustee.nlm, trustbar.nlm, and tbackup.exe?

A:
TRUSTEE.NLM is the most universal of the three tools. It runs on a wide range of NetWare versions and supportes backing up all types of NetWare specific file system information (trustees, quotas, attributes, and owners).

TRUSTBAR.NLM is more limited in funtionality and in supported platforms.

While TRUSTEE.NLM and TRUSTBAR.NLM are server-based tools, TBACKUP.EXE is a 16-bit DOS tool. That makes it perform rather poorly on Windows NT/2000/XP types machines. Also, because it is a DOS tool, it backs up the rights using the short DOS names of the files. As the DOS names may change when you copy to a different server or file system, which makes it very unreliable. So I would recommend not using TBACKUP.EXE at all.

Overall, I generally recommand using TRUSTEE.NLM, as it offers the widest functionality. Also, the text files it produces are readable and can easily be modifed in an editor. This makes it convenient for server migrations, for example.
