High traffic after partition merge
Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Q:
Earlier this week, I had to merge a partition (containing over 3,200 objects)
with its parent and then separate it back out into its own partition. Since
that time, we are seeing a constant level of unusually high traffic in
between the servers holding the replicas. This was not an issue prior to the
partition changes. The partition in question has a replica on 3 servers, one at a remote site and the other 2 at our central office.
A:
On all servers holding the problem partition(s), load dsrepair -ANT, and
run a local repair that locks the database at the same time - that is,
all three servers must have their DS databases locked at the same time,
to stop all syncing while the repairs occur. Once the repairs all
finish, commit the changes and unlock the databases. For details on -ANT, see this TID:

Note that this will make that partition unavailable to users, so schedule it
accordingly.
