Aborting a merge operation

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Posted: 1 Feb 2006

Q:
Recently, I had merged a child replica to the root. However, during the merging one of the servers went down. So I aborted the operation. Now the Root relica is in Join State 0 with 761 error when doing DSRepair.

A:
In the future, if a server goes down, don't abort the DS operation. Instead, get the server back up and the operation should continue. At worst, you'll be no worse off than you are now. Aborting has no chance of success, because the downed server can't receive the abort message so when it comes up, you're guaranteed to be out of sync.
