Can Novell's Linux servers run NLMs?

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Posted: 12 May 2004

Q:
Will Novell's Linux servers be able to run NLMs? We have a great deal of money invested in software that runs on NetWare that we can't just throw away and start over again. WIll there be some kind of conversion tool?

A:
No, NLMs will not run on Linux servers. Linux servers will be able to run daemons, native Linux applications, and Mono applications. However, NLMs written for NetWare can continue to run on NetWare using the recently announced Open Enterprise Server; a product that combines NetWare and Linux together in a consolidated product offering. Customers choosing to run Linux exclusively will need to port their NLMs to Linux.
