SUSE Linux and Clustering

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Posted: 18 Jun 2004

Q:
What does SUSE Linux use for clustering? Is it LifeKeeper or Service Guard, or some other SUSE developed component (or a third-party add-on)?

A:
SUSE ships the heartbeat open source cluster package, available also at: http://www.linux-ha.org/heartbeat/ It's a two-node primary+secondary h/a similar to Vinca/Novell high availability server (NHAS).

Then there are 3rd-party options to purchase.

Fujitsu Siemens sells PRIMECLUSTER for SUSE Linux and it works with NNLS 1.0 services. See http://www.fsc-usa.com/

Veritas Cluster Server is certified on SUSE too. See http://www.veritas.com/Products/www?c=product&refId=20

Lifekeeper is certified for SLES.

Finally, Novell Cluster Services for Linux runs on SLES8 too.
