Printer configuration in SLES 9

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Posted: 10 Sep 2004

Q:
I'm looking to configure my printer, and I just got SUSE Linux 9.0. Is there any difference from the way I did it with 8?

A:
Yes, there are a few differences. The recommended print system in SUSE Linux 9.0 is still CUPS, and there have been a few changes in the CUPS Print Service:

  • cupsd runs as the user lp
  • Generalized functionality for BrowseAllow and BrowseDeny
  • Automatic activation of cupsd following the installation of the cups package
