Q:
We're planning to deploy 500-1500 Linux workstations (Novell Linux Desktop) in production next year and would like some advice about the best strategy for deploying printers centrally to the Linux workstations.
Today in ZENworks 6.5, there is a policy that allows iPrint printers to be distributed to Windows workstations. Are there plans to do that same for Linux workstations in the future?
Does CUPS provide some functionality in this area?
A:
Included with the Open Enterprise Server product is an iPrint client for Linux. The end user experience with iPrint is the same for Windows, Linux, and Mac Clients. One preferred method for deploying the iPrint client is using Red Carpet. Post Open Enterprise Server and in the next release of Novell Linux Desktop iPrint will be completely integrated into the desktop.
