Default Linux Permissions on mounted NSS volumes

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Posted: 2 Dec 2004

Q:
When an NSS volume is mounted on OES/Linux, all of the Linux permissions are set to -rwxrwxrwx by default. Is this okay?

A:
Since NSS and Posix permissions systems are so different, the data you see in a Linux display is only an approximation of the actual rights. Posix systems will convey the Read Only and Execute, privileges, but for others, you will need to check the trustee privileges with an actual NSS application such as ConsoleOne, an NCP client, or Netstorage.
