Can iChain Notify Users if Web Server Is Unavailable?

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Q:
In the event a web server/URL becomes unavailable for whatever reason, can iChain:

  1. automatically notify the iChain user that the web server/URL they want access to is currently unavailable?

  2. and/or

  3. automatically redirect the iChain user to an alternative web server/URL?

A:
You can specify two Web server addresses in the accelerator setup to load balance between, and get failover.

In the most basic setup, iChain simply forwards requests to an originWeb server, and waits for a response from that server. If no response isavailable (either within a certain time period, or because of a TCPRST), the iChain box will issue a 504 error. If multiple Web servers areconfigured, and one server goes down, then the remaining server getssent all the requests automatically.

See TID#10069756 for more details on LDAP and HTTP load balancing and failover for iChain.
