Q:
Will Novell NSBS 5.1 coexist with Microsoft SBS 4.5 patched to sp6a on a network? I have a customer who is having severe problems with NT andExchange. I would like to upgrade them to NetWare SBS to use GroupWise, etc.I would need to allow them to evaluate before proceeding any further.
A:
Yes, we checked with some resellers who have done several such staged upgrades. They report that customers are unusually nice to them after they've done it, because it tends to follow months of unreliability, and they're so relieved to get a system that works.
One expert we heard from told us about one of his clients who actually has three servers in their network:
- Novell SBS 5.1 (primary business server)
- Microsoft SBS 4.5 (used primarily for their internet access point)
- Microsoft 2000 Server -- (used as a Citrix system)
It should not be a problem. Just remember that you will need to create the same users in the NDS tree as are in the domain, and install client32 alongside the MS client.
