Logging Database Events When Out of Disk Space

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Posted: 6 Apr 2004

Q:
Assuming that the events are logged to an Oracle database on a separate server from the Secure Logging Server (SLS), what happens when the database runs out of disk space? Will events be lost or will they be cached? The documentation mentions that if the connection to the database is lost, it will store current events in memory, but not accept new events.

A:
If the database server runs out of disk space and the connection is shut down then the SLS will cache the events until it runs out of disks space and when it fails, the Platform Agent will cache until it runs out of disk space.

It is recommended that proper database policies and procedures be put in place to prevent this from occurring. These would be best practices regardless of the implementation.
