Log and database sizes

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Q:
Since size is an issue for the database, would it be recommended to put the log on Vol1: to prevent overfilling sys:? If I were to log all the default applications, how large would the database grow and how quickly? How do you change the iChain and Novell Audit logging? Can you just disable them in Server Configuration?

A:
Size of the database depends on a) how many objects you are auditing; b) how often events occur on them; c) the type of database chosen; and a zillion other things. For a tree with a few thousand users you will quickly get into the 10's of gigs. If you're serious about auditing then you would probably be looking at a dedicated database server.

You can disable each auditing app in iManager.
