Problems with port 8080

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Posted: 2 Dec 2004

Q:
We are using NBM 3.7 with the proxy server set to the default port of 8080. A user is unable to access a link off a Web site - a 504 error results. The URL link has a port number set to 8080 - I believe is causing the conflict. What would you recommend to get around this issue?

A:
I recommend changing your filter exceptions. The default 3.7 & 3.8 exceptions do not allow outbound port 8080. You can either add another stateful exception for every non-standard web server port you find, or you can redo the exceptions.

For now, load filtcfg and add a custom stateful exception for outbound port 8080. Make it like the current default exceptions (except for port number), such as the www-http-st that will be there.
