Migration - NT to eDirectory

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Q:
I am on a project team that is evaluting the best method to migrate our old NT domain into eDirectory. I have about 50 Windows servers. We are currently moving from NT to Win2k3. There are also few production SQL servers (7.0 and 2k) in the mix. I have been unable to determine the migration path with least disruption to our production environment. The options I see are:

1) Leave the domain "as is" and use the Novell migration tool to moveusers to our Novell servers.
2) Convert the servers to AD with an in-place AD upgrade, then use Identity Manager to keep them in sync with eDirectory. After that, users would be migrated to Netware.

A:
Use Option 2. This avoids the inevitable conversion/migration of NT-IDM2 drivers to AD-IDM2drivers. If you're going to have to keep the Microsoft stuff around anyway, you're going to have to build a MAD environment. You might as well bite that bullet and get it done.
