We were looking for a automated way to move users into Caching mode without forcing it on the back end at the domain or post office level. Our users vary from volunteers in retirement to high level developers. We wanted to place the caching mailbox in the same location and simplify the process as much as possible.
After poking around in the registry, we found we could set the mode of GroupWise to Cache and then put the "Path to Cache" registry setting to where we preferred it to be. Once the user restarted GroupWise, all they would see is a prompt to enter their Online Password to prepare GroupWise for Caching mode. They didn't have to go to File | Mode | Caching and have to decide where to place their caching directory, it was already set in the registry. This worked well. We were able to deliver it in a ZENworks application object and also check disk space at the same time. Users not meeting disk space or already had registry settings for ?Path to Cache? did not get the registry settings pushed. Our move of users to Caching mode was a success.
Here are the registry settings we used. Just paste them into a text editor and save them to a .reg file. Also, if you just want to push down the ?Path to Cache? setting and not force Caching mode, just take out the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\GroupWise\Login Parameters\Mode] @="Cache" key. We also set the ?Path to Remote? key since Caching and Remote mode use the same folder. In our example we used "d:\groupwise\remote" but you can use a different path.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\GroupWise\Login Parameters\Mode] @="Cache"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\GroupWise\Login Parameters\Path To Cache] @="d:\\groupwise\\remote"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\GroupWise\Login Parameters\Path To Remote Database] @="d:\\groupwise\\remote"
