We recently migrated from Exchange to GroupWise 6.5, and of course GroupWise does not replace the "Inbox" or Outlook icon on the desktop. Instead it creates a "plain" shortcut that lacks the functionality of the Inbox/Outlook icon. While it doesn't seem like a big deal, it makes GroupWise seem less "integrated" into Windows than Outlook.

A couple of years ago we found a registry fix to restore a missing Outlook icon to a user's desktop. Going on a hunch I had, we were able to adjust the registry to put a "hard" GroupWise icon on the desktop, with the same functionality as the Inbox/Outlook icon. To-date, we have rolled this out on more than 500 desktops without a hitch. This solution works on Windows 2000 or XP as is, but can be modified to work on Windows 98 as well. It does not matter if Outlook is installed or not (we uninstall it to avoid confusion).
