We've been working on getting our users to clean up their mailbox. One often over-looked place in GroupWise where email can grow one's mailbox size is Sent Items. I said to my team, "Too bad there isn't a clean up item for sent items".

Then I remembered Rules...I now have a STARTUP rule that will delete any Sent Item that is older than 90 days:

As you can see from this graphic: I have created a rule, that will execute upon Startup , Sent items that are dated ( delivered ) 90 days before today will be deleted.

NOTE: the trick here is the -90 value to specify Days before.

  • Yes, the "Cleaning up Sent Items" rule works, but why the extra work. In the options, one can set Sent Items to delete after a specific date. Am I missing something here?
  • Thanks, this will really help.
  • I employ a comparable Rule for my users. However, instead of executing on Startup, my version executes on Exit...to eliminate bogging down startup.
  • We do the same thing here. However, I've found that users will most likely turn this rule off once they find it. To prevent that, why not make it a Nightly "gwcheck" process that runs on the POA?
  • It did not delete the items. Can you help - followed your screen directions. Would rate higher if it would work.
  • When I started training this rule, I heard people comment that it wasn't working. However, they were not patient enough. In this case, it does not clean up on day 90, but on day 91. It's a great tool!
  • This did not work with Groupwise 6.5.4, Has anyone gotten this to work with 6.5.4?
