problem:

"Failed to add entry to user word list" error within GroupWise 6.5.

The upgrade to GroupWise client 6.5 using the AOT file provided on the CD does not let users/power users add words to spelling dictionary.

We ran into this problem deploying a GroupWise 6.5 client update in addition to moving users to DLU with only local user rights. Since the default AOT file puts the US dictionary at the root of c:\, anyone with less than admin rights on the workstation cannot write to the file and subsequently cannot add words to the dictionary.

solution:

Change the target location of the WT61US.UWL file in the application object and reflect the change in the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\User Word List\6.1\US\User Word List registry key.

example:

In order to move the dictionary to a location that all users have permission to write to, the application object was changed to place the WT61US.UWL file in the user's profile directory by changing the target location from "%*windir%" to "%userprofile%".

The registry key that points to the dictionary must also be changed, so the original key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\User Word List\6.1\US\User
Word List\Name="c:\WT61US.UWL"

was changed to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\User Word List\6.1\US\User
Word List\Name = "%userprofile%\WT61US.UWL"

This solution should work for non-US dictionaries as well.
