Problem
Sometimes when scripting a password change for a web site, I couldn't tell what value was being entered into the password fields. I needed a tool to display the text behind the asterisk fields similiar to ShoWin or Windows Finder but for web pages.
Solution
After searching the net, I found AsterWin IE at http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/asterie.htmlHere's a brief description of the tool and its requirements:
- Purpose - reveals the passwords stored behind the asterisks in the web pages of Internet Explorer 5.0 and above. You can use it for recovering a lost web site password, if it's stored on your computer.
- License - freeware for personal and non-commercial use only.
- Disclaimer - software is provided "AS IS" without any warranty, either expressed or implied.
- System Requirements - Windows 95/98/ME or Windows NT/2000/XP with Internet Explorer 5.0 or above; VB6 Runtime files.
The web site also contains tips for installing and using the tool.
