Nicknames: The Solution to an Every Day Website Issue

A friend of mine recently built a website and on the website he listed all the contact information for different services he provided, ie., support@myfriendswebsite.com, info@myfriendswebsite.com, sales@myfriendswebsite.com, webmaster@myfriendswebsite.com, etc.

After doing this he wanted to setup a mechanism to receive all the emails generated from these addresses, but he didn't really want to have to setup user accounts for all of these users and have to check each one of these accounts on a daily basis.

You can imagine what a pain it would be if you had 5-10 addresses you had to check every day.

Solution:

This is easily resolved in GroupWise using Nicknames. All my friend had to so was setup a nickname on his account for each of the addresses he has listed on his website (ie., sales, support, info, webmaster).

To set this up, simply go into Console1, highlight the specific user, Properties, click on the GroupWise tab and then go down to Nicknames.

Click on Add, Specify a Post Office, specify a nickname, and if you'd like, specify a given and last name for this nickname (you typically put the user who's receiving the nickname) although adding a given and last name are not required fields.

Here's an example of what it looks on my system. And yes, if you'd like, please send me an email at goofball@gwguru.com, and I'll be happy to respond.
