Problem:

Having to either change directory to /etc/init.d/rcx.d and executing servicename command or compiling the full path (ie /etc/init.d/rcx.d/named restart) to start/stop/restart services on a Linux box.

Solution:

Using the command, rcservicename action will perform the same operation. Similar to the "service servicename action" (service named restart) on a RedHat box. An example of this would be if you were trying to restart the named service. The rc portion of the command goes before the service name. Then the action follows the command and would look similar to the example below:

rcnamed restart
rcnamed start
rcnamed stop
