I use KDM (the login and session manager for KDE) by default this way to switch back and forth between KDE and XD2 easily.
- In KDE, open the Control Center, System Administration, Login Manager.
- Make sure you click on the Administrator Mode button (if you're not logged in as root).
- Choose the Sessions tab, go to the New type box, and add:
gnome-session - Apply it and log out.
- Then when you see the KDM SUSE login screen, select the "gnome-session" session type, and you should see XD2.
Note: To keep the desktop files from affecting each other, make separate users for each type of GUI. Then after your Ximian user has logged in using gnome-session, and your KDE user has logged in using KDE, the display manager (kdm) will remember the last log-in type and make it easy for you next time.
