QUESTION: Want to try out applications without compiling them from sources or having to cope with dependencies?

ANSWER: Try KLIK! (http://klik.atekon.de/)

KLIK has an entry on opensuse.org (http://www.opensuse.org/SUPER_KLIK), which explains fairly well the technology behind KLIK.

A place with tested packages can be found here:

http://opensuse.linux.co.nz/klik/10.0/

EXAMPLE: To install KLIK:

  1. Type in a console: "wget klik.atekon.de/client/install -O - | sh"
  2. Then type: "su" (enter your root password)
  3. Then type: "sh klik-cmg-install-root"
  4. Now, try to run Opera with this URL (in Firefox or Konqueror):
  5. klik://opera
