Problem

If the administrator changes the hostname or ipaddress of the server where eDirectory is installed, eDirectory doesn't come up.

Solution

If the IP address or hostname changes, you need to edit the nds.conf file to reflect the new changes and then run network address repair. Below are the steps to bring up eDirectory.

For eDirectory versions prior to 8.8:

1. Change the following line in /etc/nds.conf file to reflect the new hostname:
n4u.nds.preferred-server=ST-FC-LNX-26

2. Run ndsrepair -N and repair the network address of the selected server.

3. Restart ndsd.

For eDirectory version 8.8:

1. Change the following lines in the nds.conf file (by default in the /etc/opt/novell/eDirectory/conf folder) to reflect the new hostname and ip address:

n4u.server.interfaces=164.99.156.37@524
http.server.interfaces=164.99.156.37@8028
https.server.interfaces=164.99.156.37@8030
n4u.nds.preferred-server=ST-NF-LNX-2P-37

2. Run ndsrepair -N and repair the network address of the selected server.

3. Restart ndsd.
