Open "mailto" Links in Thunderbird

PROBLEM: Want to have Thunderbird open a new email when you click mailto in Firefox?

SOLUTION: First open Firefox and type in about:config

After this, right-click and select New--> String

Name the string as follows:

network.protocol-handler.app.mailto

The value of the string should be:

/usr/bin/thunderbird

Once you have done this click OK and restart Firefox. There you go! Tunderbird will now start and open and email once you click a mailto link!

• For those running Windows versions enter "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" (or whatever is thunderbird's path on your installation) instead of "/usr/bin/thunderbird". Thanks for a suggestion that works
