Problem:

When a user tries to login to a NetWare 6.5 SP5 server from a Windows XP workstation using Novell Client 4.91 SP2, he gets the following error:

LOGIN-LGNWNT32.DLL-890: The specified server is unknown.

Solution:

This issue is documented in TID10100291. This is a bug in Novell Client SP2 and is fixed in "Novell CLient Post-4.91 SP2 Patch Kit B"

This is caused because of the MAP INS entry in Login Script. The entry could be anywhere in the login script. If it is at the start of the script it will fail and subsequently rest of the script will fail too.

Alternate Solution:

Either REM out the entry in the script or modify the entry as follows:

MAP INS S1:=SYS:PUBLIC

Example:

The user was using the MAP INS entry as follows:

MAP INS S1:=SERVERNAME\SYS:PUBLIC.

To solve the error without applying the patch, use the following:

MAP INS S1:=SYS:PUBLIC

Environment:

Novell Client 4.91 SP2 for Windows XP/2000
