Problem

A Forum reader asked the following question:

"I have recently gotten the UserApp up and running and have been working my way through the menus and exploring to see what I can do with it. There's something I have not been able to figure out so far:

I want to allow anonymous access (Guest) to the directory search page. I figured out how to add it to the Guest page, but I can't get it to show up there. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but can't find it."

And here's a tip from Novell's Dennis Meers ...

Solution

To see changes to the Welcome page, you'll have to clear the cache for that page. Since the content of that page is static (by locale) we cache the page for faster access. To flush the cache:

1. Log in as Admin.

2. Go to the Administration tab.

3. Click on the 'Caching' tab.

4. Choose 'com.novell.afw.portal.aggregation.EboPortalAggregationControllerImpl:Anonym ousPageCache'.

5. Click on the 'Flush Cache'.

After you've done that you'll still need to remove 'requires authentication' from the search list portlet. To do this:

1. Log in as Admin.

2. Go to the Administration tab.

3. Click the Portlet Admin tab.

4. Open up the tree and navigate to the 'SearchListPortlet'.

5. Expand it in the tree and you'll see another 'SearchListPortlet' underneath that one.

6. Select that portlet and then in the right side of the window, click the Settings tab.

7. Set the 'Requires Authentication' radio button to False.

8. Click Save Settings (it's at the bottom of the window).

Now you'll have to go back the Page Admin and change the preferences for the searchlist portlet. To do that:

1. Go to the 'Page Admin' tab.

2. Select the 'Welcome' page.

3. Click the 'Select Content' button.

4. Select 'Search List' in the 'Selected Content' box.

5. Click Content Preferences under the box.

6. Change the Default Mode to 'Basic Search'.

7. Click Save Preferences.
