Avoiding Microsoft Crashes with the GroupWise Client

Problem

Microsoft Word 2003 and Microsoft Excel 2003 have problems with the DMS function on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server (SP1) with a GroupWise 7.0.1 Client. MS Word crashes with an error if you try to open a Word document in your Groupwise Client. MS Excel produces an error that your Client is not yet started. You are also not able to save a new document into your libary.

These errors occur only with normal users - with local Administrators, everything works fine.

Solution

MS Office 2003 needs rights on a special Registry Key:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Perflib\

Give your users Change Rights to this Registry Key, and everything will work fine.

Note: This solution was tested in an environment with Windows 2003 Server (German), Groupwise Client 7.0.1 (Multilanguage), MS Office 2003, and Citrix Presentation Server 4.
