Pconsole is a utility that enables you to work on multiple consoles/servers simultaneously. It allows you to send commands to multiple consoles at the same time, and is a great time saver for the busy system administrator.
For example, if you need to create a new user-id on multiple servers, and you are using the useradd command, you can open a pconsole session and type in the useradd command to create the user-id. Pconsole will send that command to all the other server consoles so that you just have to type in the command once, and the user-id will get created on all connected server sessions.
If like most SuSE users, you are a long time KDE user, you will be happy to know that pconsole has been integrated into the KDE console now. (Unfortunately, this utility does not yet appear to be part of the Gnome shell). To broadcast commands to multiple servers:
- Bring up a console window and open up a tabbed session to each server you want to broadcast to. One of the sessions should be the one you intend to broadcast from.
- Right click on the tab of the session window you want to use for the broadcast.
- From the drop down list, select "send input to all sessions". The console icon will be replaced with a broadcast icon.
- Commands typed from this session will now be sent to all other tabbed sessions until the broadcast icon is turned off.
Hope you find this useful.
