As an administrator, you know there are times that working at a command prompt is still the best way to go for some tasks. When you're on a mapped drive, the default DOS prompt will look like this:
It's not immediately apparent WHICH server H: might be mapped to, and where (for mapped drives).
By creating/modifying the system wide PROMPT environment variable (default is $P$G) to be: $M$_$P$G:
You can get a better DOS Prompt like this, which shows the drive mapping as part of the prompt:
As you change drives, you'll alway know to where that drive is mapped.
