ENVIRONMENT: NetWare 6.5SP5 servers running ZENworks for Desktops 7SP1HP4 using the imaging engine from HP5.
Problem: ZENworks 7sp1hp5 imaging engine doesn't detect Broadcom Netlink 5787 Gigabit NIC in Acer Laptop 6410.
Solution
I modified the linuxrc.config file from the initrd file to detect the new hardware. I added the following to the bottom of the file:
newid="0x14e4 0x1693,tg3"
I was able to use the existing tg3 driver as Broadcom hasn't updated the driver for nearly 6 months.

- Thanks! I have the same problem (same NIC) with an HP 6715b laptop. I'm still working on the initrd, but I was able to confirm that I was on the right track by using the newid listed above and the method outlined in the "How-To Get the Imaging Kernel to recognize new Device ID's" Document. (Doc ID 3421576) Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
