Problem

We were using the Server Migration wizard to migrate a GroupWise 7.02 server on NetWare 6.5 SP6 to new hardware. Everything went fine until the final eDirectory migration, when it failed with this error:

0 unable to backup e-directory on source server:- erro 0x8819

The only TID I could find was concerned with earlier versions of migration utility and very large eDirectory databases. While ours is large - maybe 150,000 objects - it's not huge!

Solution

Disk space on the SYS volume! Approx 1.5GB of disk space on the SYS volume was flagged as purgeable, and the migration utility wouldn't use this space. Once the purgeable space was manually purged, the migration completed successfully.
