Want to do a custom install, but make sure that you have all that you need to use Remote Control? This is a fairly common scenario, and we found some excellent tips on this from a consultant in one of the Support Forums.

He recommends installing the Workstation manager and the Remote Control agent. You will need to edit the nwsetup.ini to enable the Remote agent install. All of the files to install the Remote Control agent are there to enable the option.

For Windows 95/98

To install the Remote Control agent with the Novell Client v3.0 for Windows 95/98, you must edit the NWSETUP.INI (default path is \products\win95\ibm_enu\) as follows:

  • Under PossibleInstallList remove the ; in front of 10=NWRCA
  • Remove the ; from the [NWRCA] section and its subordinates
  • Remove the ; from the [NWRCA.KEY] section and its subordinates

To make the Remote Control Agent checked as the default so it installs every time add the following line to the nwsetup.ini file under the [DeviceInstallList]:

  • 10=NWRCA

Save the file and then run the setup, and the Remote Control Agent option will be available.

For Windows NT

To install the Remote Control agent with the Novell Client v4.5 for Windows NT, you must edit the OEMSETUP.INF as follows:

  • Under [Options] remove the ; in front of WUA
  • Under [OptionsWUA] change INSTALL = NO to INSTALL = YES
  • To make the install optional, change OPTIONAL = NO to OPTIONAL = YES

Save the file and then run the setup, and the Remote Control Agent option will be available.

Then pick one of the following.

  1. If your server is NetWare 4.x or below or if you are running a mixed 4.x, 5.x NetWare system:
    Choose CUSTOM IPX-ONLY when installing.
  2. If you are running PURE NetWare 5:
    Choose CUSTOM IP-ONLY.
