Current Version: ZENworks 2

I thought your readers would like to know how I am enhancing Windows policies with ZEN. I am the network engineer for a small school system. I am using NAL as the shell in our labs. However, one thing I needed was a way to display certain drives and not others. For example, I wanted the students to have access to the A drive and H (their home directory).

I found a cool way to distribute a registry entry in ZEN that accomplishes this. The key is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\Explorer.

The dword value name is NoDrives. You must start with a 26-bit binary number. The least significant bit represents drive a and the most significant is z. To hide a drive, turn its bit to 1. Then convert the 26-bit number to hex and make it the value of the above entry.

I assign this application as "distribute always" and have an application for faculty members that undoes this change. It works great. Thanks for a great product.
