We've heard from some sys admins who are using Citrix on Win2000 to gain remote access to their networks, and would like to stop the Novell Login screen from appearing. Since many of their users seldom need access to Novell resources, they'd like to use MSGINA for initial authentication, bypass the Novell Login, and then let the few users that need to access Novell resources to login afterwards.

Whether or not you are using Citrix, here is the way you can stop the Novell Login screen from appearing. This tip is for anyone who is using a GINA other than NWGINA and who does not want to have Novell's login dialog appear initially.

  1. Add the following Registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Novell\Network Provider\Initial Login All of the keys except "Initial Login" should already exist.

  2. Add a new String Value and make its name be:

    Login When NWGina Not Loaded

  3. Make the Value Data be:

    no

Then, when MSGINA is used for initial authentication, the Novell client should check this registry key before putting up the Login dialog. If the value data is "no", the Novell client will NOT put up the Novell Login dialog. If the value data is anything else, or the value does not exist, the Novell client WILL put up the Novell Login dialog (the default behavior).
