One could also use the 'start' command (although I believe this only works in Windows NT). If you set the path to executable file to CMD and set the command line parameters to /c "start c:\linkdir\testlink.lnk" (note the quotes around the command after /c). This is all completely native to the OS. This will also work to run any non-executable file by its association. i.e. /c "start c:\excelfile.xls" will run open this file in Excel.
