I have seen some ideas about accessing NetWare volumes from Linux. There are many ways to do this, but the way that works best for me is below.

SOLUTION: Use Novel Client from

  1. Head on over to and download the Novell Client for Linux. (It's an open source front end to the ncpfs utilities for Linux).
  2. Next, assuming that you have a recent version of Linux (I'm using the latest Redhat), ncpfs should already be installed. That being the case, install the Novell Client for Linux and fire it up.

It's a nice little GUI that allows you to mount any type of NetWare volume. (NSS or traditional). It also works in a pure IP environment. I use it every day and it works great for me. It also supports things like packet signature levels and such and some limited login scripting. It's a great alternative to putting NFS on your NetWare servers.
