We'll be the first to admit that sometimes it seems like you need an intern just to keep track of the latest version of NDS. Of course, we keep updating NDS to make your life better and to help you keep your network humming day and night. But it's also clear that it takes a lot of time to keep track of these frequent updates. With that in mind, we've gathered all the info about NDS versions (thanks to our friends in NDS World Wide Support) and we've posted them here to make it downright easy for you to keep your network up-to-date with the latest version of NDS. So, the next time you're wondering what the latest DS version is or where you can get it, drop by here and find out.

NDS for NetWare 5

If you have a NetWare 5 server in your network mix, here's the scoop on the latest versions of NDS and timesync.nlm.

If you want to know what's changed or what's in field test, read on to find out, or if you'd rather skip the details, click here to download the latest shipping version from the Minimum Patch list.

What's in NDS v7.30 for NetWare 5?

The latest shipping version of NDS is v7.30, and it's included with Support Pack 2. We highly recommend that you install the complete Support Pack as outlined in the installation instructions. Here's a list of the changes we made from NDS v7.24 (which was part of Support Pack 1) to NDS v7.30:

  1. Connections were fixed. In some instances the NOT LOGGED IN connection was counted as a valid connection with the new NetWare 5 client. This problem would manifest itself when concurrent connections were limited to 2 and a user tried to connect using a second connection. NDS returned an error stating that maximum concurrent connections had been reached.

  2. BAD ADDRESS CACHE was fixed to act more intelligently. This problem was seen as erroneous communication errors at the console prompt.

  3. Recalculating the inherited rights attribute after you did a move sub tree was fixed. This problem manifest itself in cases where inherited rights were not properly flowing down the tree.

  4. ID_NOTHING and/or ID_ANYTHING was fixed with a buffer size recalculation. This problem manifest itself after you selected the "Import Remote Schema" option prior to merging two trees. When the tree merge was complete, either the source tree or the target tree had a double ID that was unique.

  5. Winsock error was fixed. This problem manifest itself when the ECB buffer overflow caused a server to stop synchronizing or even to abend.

NDS Files for NetWare 5 in Field Test

Here's what we're working on right now for NetWare 5.

  • We have a new version of DSRepair in field test. This version will fix the -736 error where the DIB fails to open.

Timesync for NetWare 5

The latest Timesync for NetWare 5 is version 5.09, and it is included in Support Pack 2.

We also have a Timesync, version 5.12, in field test. It's available for testing if you want to download it.

NDS for NetWare 4.11 and 4.2

What's New in NDS v6.03 for NetWare 4.11 and 4.2?

The latest shipping version of NDS is v6.03, and it is part of the DS411Q.EXE file. You can download DS411Q.EXE from the Minimum Patch list. We highly recommended that you install this latest DS on all your 4.11 and 4.2 servers as outlined in the installation instructions. Here's a list of the changes we made from NDS v6.02 to NDS v6.03:

  1. Connections were fixed, where the NOT LOGGED IN connection was counted as a valid connection with the new NetWare 5 Client. This would manifest itself when concurrent connections were limited to 2 and a user would try to connect using a second connection. DS would return an error stating that maximum concurrent connections had been reached.

  2. Fixes an abend caused by obituaries synchronized by NetWare 5. This version of NDS handles the newer type of obituary, type C, that NetWare 5 creates. Type C obituaries were causing servers to abend when the obituary was the last value and was a certain length.

Files in Field Test for NetWare 4.11 and 4.2

The latest version, v5.17a is in field test. It's available for download if you want to give it a try. Here's a list of the fixes you'll find in 5.17a:

  1. Fixes an abend caused by obituaries synchronized by NetWare 5. This version of NDS handles the newer type of obituary, type C, that NetWare 5 creates. Type C obituaries were causing servers to abend when the obituary was the last value and was a certain length.
