Novell recently released a new component designed to make NDS authentication easier than ever. The product is called NDS Authentication Services (NDS-AS), and allows you to use NDS as your primary authentication database, even for client platforms that currently don't support NDS, such as IBM OS-390, IBM AIX, and other platforms.

With NDS-AS, you direct the client operating system to search NDS for login/passwords, rather than the local authentication scheme. This allows you to centralize network authenticating to one database.

NDS-AS also includes a set of APIs which allows you to write custom authentication schemes easily.
