The install scripts for eDirectory on Linux are bourne shell scripts. They simply check for a lot of specific conditions -- kernel and dependent files, disk space, already installed packages, key files, dib files, etc., and then prompt you for the appropriate set of packages to install.
You can see what exactly is being done if you run the script as "sh -x nds-install". The shell will print each command (with a + prefix) as it runs the script. You can see what might be going wrong from the output.
If you installing the packages for the first time on a machine, you could also use "rpm -ivh *.rpm".
