Getting ConsoleOne to run on Linux

We found that ConsoleOne 1.3.6 doesn't run on Fedora Core 1 (Linux) after installing with Novell's supplied JRE.

(The CPU usage goes to 100% for a few minutes and then the Linux kernel kills the ConsoleOne process because it used up all available system memory!)

Solution

  1. Install ConsoleOne 1.3.6 WITHOUT Novell's provided JRE.
  2. Install Sun's JRE: I used J2RE1.4.2_03 which can be downloaded from here.
  3. Modify the file /usr/ConsoleOne/bin/ConsoleOne to include the variable
    C1_JRE_HOME=/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_03
    I put it just under the JREHOME2 variable.

And voila! ConsoleOne should now start!
