Want to keep your users from sending spam mail to everyone in the GroupWise address book? Read on...
There's a little feature in GroupWise called "wildcard addressing" that allows a person to send an e-mail easily to everyone in the system simply by putting an ASTERISK (*) in the TO, CC, or BC field. This is fine if you're a very friendly (and small) company, but it is highly subject to abuse. As we all know, one person's amusing anecdote can be another person's last straw.
This feature is administered using the GroupWise snap-in in NetWare administrator. It is accessed in the Client Options dialog. You can turn the feature off completely if you want. You can also grant rights to just a few users (say, the boss, and you). Do everyone a favor, and turn it off now. That way, if someone really wants to send that annoying joke to everyone in the company, they'll have to choose each recipient's name individually, and they may become a little more selective.
It's not world peace, but it's a start.
