Are you a GroupWise administrator who manages a WebAccess site for your GroupWise client users? If the answer is "no," then this tip is not for you. Drop by again next week, OK?
If you're still reading, you must be a GroupWise administrator who manages a WebAccess site. Great! Do you have more than 25 GroupWise users? If the answer is "no," then you probably haven't had anyone complain that the WebAccess client displays only 25 addresses at a time. But most GroupWise systems do have more than 25 users, so you may have heard that complaint.
One more question before we get to the bottom line: Do you feel queasy at the sight of HTML or Java scripting? If the answer is "yes," then take a deep breath and decide how badly you want to list more users in the WebAccess client. If your stomach can handle it, carry on. If you thrive on scripting, then dive right in.
But be forewarned: One of our readers, Karen R., asked us this question and we asked a WebAccess developer. He gave us these instructions and he "thinks" they will work. Karen hasn't written back to complain; you can draw your own conclusions from that. Proceed at your own risk.
In the HTML version of WebAccess,
- Locate the following files:
If you don't know where these files are, you don't know enough to be fiddling with them. No one will notice if you stop right here.
- Make backup copies of these two files. Just in case...
- In these two files, change
where nnn is how many addresses you'd like to display.
"The trick," says our WebAccess developer, "is in finding the correct links to change. There will be two in MAINTOP.HTM. Look for the links that are used for the Address Book in the sections starting with <IF Disp="ToolBar"> and <IF Disp="ActionBar">. There will be another link in SEND.HTM. The link is used as the action attribute of the form. Changing the value in this link may affect the size of other lists, not just the Address Book."
In the Java version of WebAccess,
- Locate the following file:
If you don't know where this file is, you don't know enough to be fiddling with it. No one will notice if you stop right here.
- Make a backup copy of the file. Just in case...
- In the LOOKUSER.HTM file, change
<PARAM NAME=Pref_Users VALUE="<IF User-More > 0><DISPLAY User-More><ELSE>25</IF>">
<PARAM NAME=Pref_Users VALUE="nnn">
where nnn is how ever many addresses you'd like to display.
There You Have It!
OK, brave hearts! The knowledge is yours. Use it if you dare. And let us know how it turns out!
