If you're one of the many folks who've called the Customer Response Center or submitted requests about the DOS Client (you know who you are), this one's for you. Just bear in mind that the reason it's not available anymore on the normal Software Downloads page is that it is no longer a supported Novell product. Which means you'll be met with stony silence if you try to call Support about it. If you're okay with that, feel free to download it now.

To install Client32, extract the DW271e.exe program to a temporary subdirectory, then run INSTALL from there.

If you are running only DOS, or DOS/Win3x in an IPX-only environment, then VLM is probably your best choice. Extract each of the VLM121_x.EXE files to a common subdir, such as C:\VLM_INST, then run INSTALL from there. Or you can extract them to diskettes, and run INSTALL from disk 1.

    vlm121_1.exe     1MB

    vlm121_2.exe     449KB

    vlm121_3.exe     1.2MB

    vlm121_4.exe     1MB

    vlm121_5.exe     420KB

    vlm121_6.exe     1MB

Extract all to a common subdir, then run INSTALL from there.

    • I hate microsoft. It just causes troubles. But either you have microsoft or you can't communicate... *TOM*
    • Gracias, en Mexico existen muchas estaciones DOS
    • Can I use it with today's PCI cards?
    • MAY DOS LIVE LONG AND PROSPER AGAIN!! THANKS COOL GUYS!!!!!! Skip Bieber
    • Upgrade or die in the gutter? Try and teach PowerQuest how to copy a Windows disk image to a NetWare server with DeployCenter without booting the PC to DOS first!
    • this is the best. i recently messed up my wondows operating system on a laptop. (biggest mistake of my life) and the only way to retrive the files on my harddirve was to netword ny computer in dos. thanks a lot for keeping this file on your server i know its old but its been a lifesaver
    • yes !!!
    • we can't more from DOS for some of our applications - we don't want to move from Novell either - so thanks for this!!!
    • Best!
    • PROOF that Novell is King!
    • Why is it that I can't use 32bit TCPIP instead of 16bit TCPIP? But great all the same!
    • Gracis me habeis salvado el puesto de trabajo
    • Super, Smashing, Great !
    • Superb - realy cool.
    • You guys need a hobby er something.
    • I am greatful that you are providing this software again as my floppy discs have become corrupted. I and others out there still have a need to support legacy DOS programs at client sites until they are ready or a forced to migrate (hardware failure)
    • Until network OS makers provide a utility to create nice auto-detect (with updatable NIC section) boot CD's for us, we need these drivers to create our own CD or diskette. BTW, one comment says "just because its no longer supported," ah - correction: Novell did not technically support their clients in the past - you had to use forums to find answers, but, you had to know the clients inside-out for the older tests (go figure!).
    • Ironic that Novell wants the DOS client to die, yet still boots SERVER.EXE from DOS... ;) ajr
    • Party On!
    • We still need it!
    • It's no problem to connect via DOS to a Win2000 server. So you have to support the DOS client in order to compete with MS. There are still some DOS clients in our enterprise (for different reasons)!
    • Очень нужная вещь. Без нее как без рук.
    • larga vida a Novell!
    • Good thing to provide a DOS client, other way we would need to have a Windows server to allow us to install unattended Windows (!!!) clients. I hope that all the Microsoft detractor don't use MS-DOS !!!
    • Novell+LINUX=POWER
    • THANKS, BIG HELP!!!! DOS for life... NOvell is really the BEST..
    • How else to play Mortal Kombat 3 over the network ??? :) Thank you
    • DOS is the Alpha!
    • Nice to find this very useful Client,
    • Novell forever - stand up!! - Leandro - JAN
    • I REALLY could have used this 6 months ago when i was consolidating archive data from an old DOS-based archive system. Are there any other tools you are hiding from me? I never called Customer Response for this, but i really did need it.
    • I thought I was never going to find this!
    • The links for the VLM files aren't working anymore.
    • I am putting together a FreeDOS/GEM GUI distro, and needed these network tools! I wanted to be able to test the distro, and see if things could work. Great. Fantastic. Well done guys. Keep up the support. http://gem.shaneland.co.uk for news on the distro, by the way!
    • Awesome. Thank you!!!!!!!!! Novell = 10 Microsoft = 0

    • saves the day! DOS is still needed
    • Novell - best
    • Super!
    • We run 50 machines on DOS in Novell 3.12 over Lan, Wan, and now with TINY internet remote control. I love not letting Bill's Buddies change all my settings
    • Viva Netware!
    • Very cool. Is is still there!
    • yea!
    • DOS Forever!!!
    • YESSSS!!! Finally I found it via google... :-)))
    • absolutely brilliant
    • Don't hide DOS client.
    • Keep it simple. Keep it working. Keep it DOS.
    • Hard to beat DOS's simplicity for some tasks
    • Yes Baby Yessss!!!!! This is amazing!
    • A DOS Client is my favourite troubleshooting tool for network connectivity. Boot up with a DOS disk and manually connect with LSL, NIC, IPXODI & VLM. It is so easy to find problems this way!! Dave Duggan
    • THANKS!!!!!!!
    • I had to go to Potluck software to find this page. Don't hide the DOS client even though it's not supported. Your friends at Powerquest who make Server Magic have in their documentation using a DOS client. So please don't make this so difficult to find!!!
    • Me like Google 2!
    • I can't believe how long it took me to find this. Just because it's no longer "supported" doesn't mean that you should hide it like this. Please, keep it in the downloads.
    • I'm with the other folks this was NOT easy to find, but not all Deities were created google...oh wait...
    • After 9 years finally up to try Novell Dos :o) Good old DOS prompt !!!
    • GG, Google! RT has his DOS Netware goodies again! w00t! :-D
    • Good grief! Why did you hide it so well? There are people who have necessary DOS functions - why force them to change at great expense and effort?
    • The most important tool in our unattended Windows distribution scenario!!!
    • funtastic!!!!! Admin007
    • don't hide it. there are still lots of DOS client stations.
    • thank you !!!!!!!!!
    • This is still a very essential product. Please continue to provide it.
    • Novell rules!!
    • Who's the Daddy, Still use VLM Client for imaging. Have you ever tried to create an MS Network Boot disk, dont bother. VLM and DOS rule the day.
    • Perfect.I'm 18 years old and want to learn about PCs from the basic DOS up to Linux and so on. My "small" DOS-PC (Pentium 2 233Mhz) uses a modern PCI-Ethernet adapter and it does work. GreetZ from germany =))
    • please save this as most of the application still works excellently on DOS and therefore one needs this DOS CLIENT......Thanks to Novell
    • Great - But See also the very useful Portlock Collection http://www.portlock.com/ethernet.htm
