BGInfo automatically displays relevant information about a Windows computer on the desktop's background, such as the computer name, IP address, service pack version, and more. You can edit any field as well as the font and background colors, and can place it in your startup folder so that it runs every boot, or even configure it to display as the background for the logon screen.

Because BGInfo simply writes a new desktop bitmap and exits you don't have to worry about it consuming system resources or interfering with other applications.

• Brilliant stuff. Had a similar idea, but that involved html and Active desktop. But I'm not that keen on Active Desktops..
• This is great !! You actually don't have to set as wallpaper, but can run it silently and send all this info to a sql db and report off of it. You can also add / create custom data elements to scan for.
• This is a great tool, but you have to be REALLY careful with their licensing. Distributing this via NAL, email, server share, etc is all in violation of their license unless you buy a commercial license from them. The only other legal way is to download it straight from www.sysinternals.com directly onto each and every end-user machine indivdually.
