ZENworks Personality Migration is a tool that can be used for other things besides migrating from one PC to another. We use it to backup email on the users' PCs, as well as critical data. This saves us from having to install backup software on every user's PC and on tapes. Here's what you do.
After installing ZENworks Personality Migration, create a template to save all data that you deem essential (My Documents, email, etc.), and then create an Application Object that runs on a scheduled basis to backup the data to a server volume of your choice. Create another one that will put the data back when necessary. You will also have to give the user RWCEMF rights in the DATA directory under DDNA.
Here is an example of the program and parameters line that you would use in your application object for collecting the data:
Program: \\SERVER\VOLUME\ddna\DesktopDNA.exe parameters: /D \\SERVER\VOLUME\ddna\data\%CN%\FILENAME /T \\SERVER\VOLUME\ddna\templates\TEMPLATE.dtf /X /Q
Replace "\\SERVER\VOLUME" with your server and volume name. Replace "FILENAME" with whatever you want to name the DNA file. Replace "TEMPLATE.DTF" with whatever you name your template.
The /Q option will make the application run in the background so that the user doesn't even see it happening.
Here is an example of the program and parameters line that you would use in your application object for putting the data back:
Program: \\SERVER\VOLUME\ddna\DesktopDNA.exe Parameters: /A \\SERVER\VOLUME\ddna\data\%CN%\FILENAME.DNA /T \\SERVER\VOLUME\ddna\templates\TEMPLATE_NAME.dtf /X /M
