Problem:
Receiving "kernel panic" after SLES-8-SLRS was installed on a Sun LX50 server.
Solution
I rebooted using the SLES-8-SLRS CD-1, selected "Installation," at the installation menu, I selected "Reboot from installed OS," I then edited the /boot/grub/menu.lst file, I added acpi=oldboot at the end of the kernel line, right next to vga=788.
Example
# vi /boot/grub/menu.lst
title linux
kernel (hd0,0)/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda3 vga=788 acpi=oldboot
