I couldn't get my zip drive to work in SUSE Linux Professional 9.2. I tried and read everything but I missed the most basic solution.
Turn on zip support in CMOS if you have it. That and the right entry into the fstab file so you can use it as a user and not as Super User.
/dev/hdd /media/zip subfs user,procuid,nodev,nosuid,sync 0 0
IN A TERMINAL WINDOW AS ROOT:
mount -t subfs /dev/hdd /media/zip
