As described in TID 10086331, Internet Explorer users are unable to download attachments from WebAccess when SSL is enabled. The suggested solution in the TID is unacceptable because it requires making client-side modifications and we cannot do that in our environment.

This solution is for GroupWise WebAccess version 6.5 when installed on SUSE Linux.

As mentioned in the TID, the problem resides in a header returned by the server. The Apache web server has a feature (mod_headers) that allows you to modify the headers before sending them to the client. With this feature, you can remove the headers that are causing the problem.

Contrary to the TID, I found that the problem is really the "Pragma: no-cache" header, not the "Cache-control" header.

  1. First, edit the httpd.conf file (in /etc/opt/novell/httpd/conf) and make sure the headers_module is available. Look for the line containing LoadModule headers_module and make sure it is uncommented.

  2. Next, edit /etc/opt/novell/httpd/conf.d/gw.conf and add the following lines to the end of the file:

    # Remove the Pragma: no-cache header.
    Header unset Pragma

  3. Then restart Apache, with /etc/init.d/novell-httpd restart.
