Overview

Sesame Workshop is a not-for-profit educational organization that stands alone in its ability to creatively solve major educational and developmental needs that affect children around the world. For over 30 years, the Workshop has created innovative and engaging media to help all children reach their highest potential. The organization grounds its work in research to understand how multi-media platforms help children learn, develop and grow. Best known as the creators of "Sesame Street," "Dragon Tales" and "Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat" airing on PBS, the Workshop continues to break new ground with Noggin, the only 24-hour kids' thinking channel. Challenge

Sesame Workshop needed an infrastructure that would quickly gather essential data and provide it to key decision-makers, while guaranteeing optimal system security. The organization also desired a solution that would allow it to utilize existing technology, seamlessly unifying its multi-platform environment.

Co-productions require open communication to ensure uniformity of the various Sesame Workshop brands. For example, with the "Sesame Street" brand?Elmo must appear the same across international boundaries.

Novell Solution

Sesame Workshop selected Novell Net services software to help deliver high-quality educational entertainment to children across the globe. Novell Portal Services and Novell eDirectory, the heart of the overall solution, provides users with a personalized view to Sesame Workshop.

Novell iChain, based on eDirectory, provides an unfailing layer of security to the organization's network. By authenticating users from profiles stored on the directory, iChain gives Sesame the ability to control access to applications and network resources across technical or organizational boundaries.
